portraits of me
You would think that there is nothing more disconcerting than seeing multiple images of yourself, especially for someone who loathes having their photo taken! But there is something altogether more comfortable about being drawn than being photographed. It is yourself through someone else’s eyes, in that person’s particular style so it feels a little more removed from reality and enables you to see the image much more objectively than a photograph.
Each week, most weeks since the beginning of Lockdown 1.0 in March 2020, I have enjoyed taking part in some form of group portrait session, from Moustache Portraits, DrawBrighton via Patreon and my current favourite #DrawEachOther with John Pipal and Mark Lovelace. #DrawEachOther involves up to 50 participants, taking it in turns to sit for the group on Zoom. People of all ages and abilities who work in all kinds of styles and mediums. A proper community of like-minded folk!
So, given the choice, whilst you will rarely see a photo of me, here are some of the portraits that have been done over the months,
which I am weirdly way more happy to share than any photo!
For some of my drawings and sketches of others head over to PORTRAITS and SKETCHBOOK or have a search on my Instagram feed.
For others drawings from the evening sittings, search #DrawEachOther on Instagram.
